Florence and Venice
Blackout shades do wonders. Me and Shay usually wake up with the sun but with the shades closed, we somehow slept until 10 AM. After rushing to get ready, we ate breakfast at the hotel again and went on our way to the Rialto Market.
At the market we walked around amongst the fresh produce, meat, and seafood. Shayna was grossed out by the snails moving and the squid dangling over the side of the crates. I on the other hand was impressed and ready to try some food right then and there.
As we finished walking through the market, there was a small restaurant that takes fish from the market and creates different types of dishes. I had to try one and ended up having a seafood salad which was great.
After this, we slowly made our way back to our hotel to get our luggage as our time in Venice came to an end. We got on the train at 1 pm and were in Florence by 3 PM. We are staying in a suite at the Westin Excelsior which is right on the Arno river and is beautiful.
We then decided to walk around the city and Shayna proclaimed "I love this city more than Venice already". Let it be known that she said this as we were walking by Prada and a bunch of other high end stores.
We went back to our hotel and waiting for us when we returned was a bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sent from our friends the Bellucks. We indulged a little bit and then slowly got ready for dinner at a well known restaurant called La Giostra. Dinner was amazing. After dinner, the US soccer game was on and we knew another couple in Florence so we met up with them at a very smelly American bar and watched the game. Unfortunately the US lost but it was fun to watch the game in a foreign country with a bar full of Americans screaming and cheering.
Overall, another great day in Italia.
Matt & (Shayna)
